“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

APPROACHES

Depth Psychology

EXPLORING THE PSYCHE

  • Depth Psychology is a multifaceted approach to psychotherapy that delves into the hidden realms of the psyche, which refers to the totality of the conscious and unconscious mind. This modality utilizes active imagination (a method of interacting with contents of the unconscious), dream analysis, and engagement with archetypal patterns (universal symbols and motifs that appear across cultures and time periods) to act as gateways to self-discovery.

  • Central to Depth Psychology is Imaginal Psychology, emphasizing the imagination as a fount of insight and healing. We can use expressive arts to access and articulate unconscious material. Through creative expression—whether via visual arts, movement, voice, or narrative—clients can unveil layers of meaning that might otherwise elude verbal expression, allowing for a richer engagement with the inner world.

  • Individuation, a concept introduced by Carl Jung, refers to the process of becoming an integrated individual by harmonizing various parts of the psyche. In order to become more whole, or individuated, we are often asked to heed to an inner wisdom that may force change in our lives. The hero or heroine's journey reframes the process of confronting inner challenges as an opportunity to overcome obstacles and move toward wholeness.

    • Greater self-awareness and self-understanding:
By exploring the depths of the psyche, individuals gain insight into their motivations, fears, and desires, leading to a more satisfying and fully engaged life.

    • Enhanced creativity and intuition:
Engaging with the unconscious mind can unlock creativity and intuition, tapping into a wellspring of inspiration and innovation.

    • Deeper connection to the purpose and meaning in life:
Depth psychology helps people connect with their innermost selves, their soul's calling, and reframe challenges as opportunities for growth.
